The cups in our guest rooms have a quirky shape.
Named "A Cup That Fits Your Hand", they are made with a sheet of wrapped clay, given a curvy final touch.
The curved part is bent just right to fit your hand. The moment you pick up the cup, it feels somewhat comforting.
These cups are made in collaboration with TOKINOHA, located in Kiyomizuyaki-danchi, a conglomerate of pottery makers, clay suppliers, and wholesale traders.
They create and sell ceramic products directly to customers at their modern studio and shop in Yamashina.
While respecting the tradition of Kiyomizu-ware and the skills passed down from the past generation, TOKINOHA pursues to create pieces to fit the modern day living.
Visitors can not only admire ceramicists creating their pieces, but also their face and skills in the laboratory-like studio.
"Our studio was located behind the store, but we have always wanted to bring customers and creators closer. This is why we now have our studio showcased next to the store", says the owner, Mr. Kiyomizu.
A showroom for bespoke orders is available upstairs, as well as classes and workshops, so do not miss the opportunity to experience pottery making upon your visit.
