A beautiful sound created by a suikinkutsu

Suikinkutsu is a large jar with a small opening on top that is usually buried underground in Japanese gardens.

Water drips through the hole at the top onto a small pool of water inside of the pot, creating a dripping sound that rings inside, making similar sound to a bell.

This musical-instrument-like ceramic creates random but pleasant sound.

Suikinkutsu is often placed in temple's gardens for meditation and is said to let meditators concentrate with the natural sound.

At NOHGA HOTEL KIYOMIZU KYOTO, we have asked Shinya Taniguchi to create a suikinkutsu for our meditation room.

While respecting the traditional Kyo ware, he adds his unique touch to his radical design.

Enjoy our original suikinkutsu's refined design and beautiful sound during your meditation.

Experience the traditional Japanese aesthetics of "wabi-sabi".
